American Consumer Credit Counseling (ACCC) announced today that the non-profit will participate in the American Bankruptcy Institute’s 20th Annual Bankruptcy Conference and 8th Annual Consumer Forum in Newport, Rhode Island from July 11th through July 14th.

At the convention, representatives from ACCC’s bankruptcy counseling services department will be on hand to discuss the industry’s most recent trends and best practices and to offer resources such as debt management and financial education. Across the country, Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 bankruptcy filings have fallen drastically over the past year, down 13 percent. In Massachusetts, personal bankruptcy filings plummeted 18 percent in 2012, a good indicator of a recovering economy.

“Though trends are showing declining filings nationwide, bankruptcy continues to plague hundreds of thousands of Americans each year,” said Steve Trumble, President and CEO of Newton, Massachusetts-based ACCC. “This conference represents a valuable opportunity for industry experts like ACCC to work collaboratively with distinguished attorneys, scholars, business leaders and government officials on the advancement of bankruptcy and consumer protection methods.”

The American Bankruptcy Institute (ABI) is the nation’s leading provider of quality bankruptcy educational programs. Comprised of more than 13,000 members from various industries and professional disciplines, ABI is the largest multi-disciplinary, non-partisan organization dedicated to research and education on matters related to insolvency. The Institute, founded in 1982, aims to provide Congress and the public with unbiased analysis of bankruptcy issues as well as to facilitate a forum for the exchange of ideas and information.

“I am looking forward to representing ACCC at ABI’s regional conference,” said Joe Beston, a counselor within ACCC’s Bankruptcy Counseling services Department. “As the nation continues to recover from the recession, our role as counselors has become increasingly important in helping Americans regain their financial stability.”

ACCC’s team of certified and experienced counselors are contacted by approximately 200 consumers each day who are in need of a trusted source for consumer bankruptcy counseling and personal financial management education. In addition to bankruptcy counseling, ACCC offers a variety of financial education, credit counseling and debt management services to help consumers achieve long-term financial health and stability. The organization’s Bankruptcy Counseling Department offers counseling sessions both online and over the phone and provides consumers with comprehensive educational resources available at ConsumerCredit.com.
