Options for federal student loan relief.
When you come to ACCC for free credit counseling, we will help you explore all the possibilities for federal student loan relief. These may include:
- Student loan repayment plans. You may be able to get federal student loan relief by changing your repayment plan to lower your monthly payments or reduce the amount of interest you’re paying on your debts.
- Deferment and forbearance. If you’re facing unemployment or certain economic hardships, you may be able to suspend payments for a limited period of time until your back on your feet financially.
- Student loans consolidation. Consolidation provides federal student loan relief by combining several debts into a single new loan, ideally with lower interest and lower monthly payments.
- Student loan forgiveness. Borrowers who are entering the fields of community service, military service, health service, or teaching may find student debt relief by having their loans forgiven. A federal student loan forgiveness program is also available for borrowers who are employed by government entities and certain nonprofit organizations.
