Donald Trump beats Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders on key economic issues, according to new poll of budget-conscious consumers by American Consumer Credit Counseling.
Boston, MA – May 16, 2016
According to a recent survey on the Economy and the Presidential Election by American Consumer Credit Counseling, 38 percent of respondents said Donald Trump will be most effective in creating jobs, followed by Hillary Clinton (27 percent) and Bernie Sanders (20 percent).
Consumers polled said that their biggest economic concern is social security (24 percent) followed by income inequality and poverty (18 percent) and student loan debt (13 percent). Although most of the respondents believe that Trump will be the best candidate for the U.S. economy (34 percent), they are also most concerned about his economic policies (42 percent). Twenty-seven percent of respondents believe that Clinton is the best candidate for the economy and just 20 percent are most concerned about her economic policies.
When asked who will do the most to address income inequality, almost 39 percent of respondents chose Trump, followed by Clinton with 27 percent.
“According to our survey, consumers believe Donald Trump is the best candidate to address key economic concerns, such as preserving social security benefits and addressing the growing gap between the richest and poorest Americans,” said Steve Trumble, President and CEO of American Consumer Credit Counseling, which is based in Newton, MA. “It is also interesting that in this survey, both male and female respondents largely agree on their candidate choices on the different economic issues they’ve indicated are most important.”
Fifty-two percent of respondents reported an income of $50,000 or less, and 67 percent are 45 years of age or older. Of the respondents 39 percent are democrat, 36 percent are Independent and 25 percent are Republican.
The online poll of 194 budget-conscious consumers was conducted by American Consumer Credit Counseling on the organization’s website, www.consumercredit.com. You can view an infographic illustrating the poll results HERE.
