Birthday celebrations can snowball quickly out of control. While having fun is the main goal, it does come at a cost and add up to the already hefty consumer debt. So how can you throw a birthday celebration on a budget?
Birthday Celebrations on a Budget
Birthdays are a time to celebrate and even indulge a bit. However, if you already have a significant amount of credit card debt, you should be careful with your spending. That doesn’t mean you can’t have fun, but it means you should be conscientious about where your money is going. Here are some things that you can do to plan your birthday celebrations on a budget.
- BYOB restaurants. There are many restaurants with great food that offer a BYOB option. Buying a bottle of wine or two beforehand is much cheaper than if you were to purchase the same wine at a restaurant. Same goes for mixed drinks and beers.
- Treat yourself to one thing that’s important to you. While your birthday is a good day to indulge it is important that you know the limit to make sure you stay on track in your debt management efforts. So, pick your battles! This year treat yourself to that gorgeous dress and next year you can switch your phone to a newer one!
- Indulge in birthday freebies! If you are a member of store loyalty programs you are bound to get some freebies. They can include price-off coupons, discounts, or even free samples. Use them wisely and make the most of it all. Don’t forget your free coffee or donut on your birthday!
- Host a potluck dinner party. Don’t forget to enjoy your birthday with your friends. A birthday potluck is a great way to keep unnecessary costs at bay and enjoy your day.
Planning birthday celebrations on a budget is never an impossible task. As long as you’re creative, resourceful, and disciplined, you can enjoy your birthday without breaking the bank!
