Buy This, Not That: Something Tiffany Blue

Now that it’s summer, I start to ramp up my search for the perfect home décor. I love to entertain during the warm months, and I want my house to look great for my guests. But luxury home goods are incredibly expensive, so I prefer to turn to thrift stores and IKEA for home accessories. The affordability also allows me to switch out the décor several times a year, which keeps the ever-changing look interesting. It’s a great way to stay on track with my budget and avoid credit card debt.

Our credit counseling advice is to consider less costly alternatives.

Our credit counseling advice is to consider less costly alternatives.

Here’s a great example of how luxury home goods can be astronomically more expensive than a department store version. Though this blue Elsa Peretti bowl from Tiffany & Co is beautiful in its craftsmanship and made of crystal, it’s $375. This ceramic version from IKEA looks similar and does the same job as the Tiffany version, but at less than $10.

Think of all the things you could do with the savings. Do you think $375 is worth it for a bowl? Let us know in the comments below!
