Valentine’s Day. A day to celebrate with the one you love most. A time to tell your significant other that you really care about them. A time to give them another gift. Don’t worry, though, you don’t have to break the budget (or derail your debt management progress) in order to give them something special from the heart. Here are some great ideas for Valentine’s Day that are sure to be a big hit with your date, but not on your wallet:
A Romantic Dinner Together: There is nothing more special than having alone time with your date. To make it more romantic you could cook dinner together in the comfort of your own home. This way you don’t have to deal with loud crowds at restaurants. At the end of the dinner make a sundae to share.
Be Creative With Candy: Just giving your date candy is really boring and routine when it comes to Valentine’s Day. You need to do something creative, something that they will remember. Try this: Get a bag of M&M’s, Hershey Kisses, Gummy Bears or Candy Hearts, and have them spell out a phrase such as; Happy Valentine’s Day, I Love You or Be Mine etc. It works… believe me.
Make a Valentine’s Day Card: Don’t let Hallmark get all the credit for writing to your significant other. Write it yourself. Put some thought into it and make it your own. Even if you’re not the most creative person in the world try your best. When they see the card they will know you put time and effort into it and will love it. The DIY route is perfect for staying on budget.
Create a Valentine Coupon Book: This is a great idea and doesn’t have to cost much. You can make it in many ways (with construction paper, glue, markers, crayons etc.). Be creative. In the coupon book you can include coupons for a kiss, massage, free pass from doing the dishes, or a choice of a movie for movie night. For the ladies, it’s chick-flick night. As for guys, it’s zombie time.
Make a Photo Album: You can actually make your own photo album with paper bags (Which sounds odd but when they are done they look great). There are great DIY tutorials out there.
You also could use one that you already have and find pictures of the both of you together and put them in the book. This way you can spend some time looking at the album together and remember the wonderful times you had from the past.
Special Delivery at Work: So your valentine has to work during Valentine’s Day. Make the most of this opportunity. While they are at work, make a special delivery. Bring them either flowers, a box of candy or a teddy bear.
