Happy National Boyfriends Day! To celebrate, American Consumer Credit Counseling has some frugal fall date ideas for you. If you are trying to eliminate credit card debt or save for a big purchase, you might not have a lot of cash to spare. Luckily, these date ideas are very affordable for those on a tight budget!
1. Visit a museum.
When the weather starts to get chilly, a museum is a fun date! Many museums have days or times when admission is free. Try to time your date around those free days/hours. Also, if you are a student or veteran, there are often discounts for you, so check the museum’s website ahead of time to see if you can get a few dollars knocked off the price of admission. Just remember to bring your student or military ID when you go!
2. Go on a nature hike to see the fall foliage.
Before the weather gets too cold, go on one last hike and see the changing leaves. Taking in a beautiful view of fall leaves is one of the most romantic fall dates! Plus, nature is free, and if you pack a picnic with you, you can save on food costs too. Free activities are great ways to have fun when you’re working on debt management.
3. Meet for breakfast or coffee instead of dinner.
Dinner dates can get expensive, but fall is the perfect season to meet up for breakfast or coffee instead, especially if you love the seasonal menu items. ‘Tis the season of pumpkin spice lattes, apple cider, and all kinds of fall beverages that only come once a year! Getting coffee will only cost you a few dollars, as opposed to a dinner date that could be triple or quadruple the cost of your pumpkin flavored drink.
4. Tour a local brewery.
Cheers to fall beers! Similar to how cafes often have seasonal beverages, some breweries also have beers that are only sold during the autumn months. This makes fall an ideal time for a brewery tour, which is one of my favorite frugal fall date ideas! Some brewery tours are free, and for those that aren’t, you can find coupons online.
5. Carve pumpkins.
Nothing on this list of frugal fall date ideas is more quintessentially fall than carving pumpkins! This is a great at-home date for when you don’t feel like spending a ton of money going out. Pumpkins and carving tools are relatively cheap, and if you roast the seeds after you’re done, you basically get a free snack to share!
