It’s now August and it’s getting close to school time. At this point, all of the college students (and some of their parents who can’t wait till they leave) are counting down the days till they go back to school. So you have the essentials ready to go, you got new sneaks, your hip new clothes, and your flashy new hats (Dang it feels good to be a gangst– uh… college student ). So you look good (that’s a given) but your room could use a touch up. This is where some furniture can help spice it up. We have tips for getting furniture on a budget.
I know what you’re thinking, furniture is expensive. That is true but there are ways in which you can get some furniture for college for little to almost nothing. How is this possible? Well, if you know where to look you can save yourself quite a bit of money (and avoid credit card debt).
For example;
Do you live near a college campus? If you do you are in luck! College kids during move out/in days tend to throw out a lot of furniture because they can’t fit it in their car for the ride home or fit it in their dorm room. This is where you can get some furniture for your pad. I’ve seen people give away things such as televisions stands, book ends, lamps, and tables.
Another way you can get your hands on some cheap furniture is to look on craigslist.com. A lot of people tend to move during the summer months (It’s warmer outside, the kids are out of school etc.). Because of this, they list the items that they cannot fit into their new home on craigslist.
Looking for bookends or a foot rest? Why not make them yourself? “The power is yours” as Captain Planet would say. There are tons of videos online that will help you build whatever item you could ever want.
If you’re the crafty type, check out websites like instructables.com for tutorials on making all types of things.
Not so handy with dad’s power tools and not so lucky in finding cheap/free furniture? Don’t lose all hope just yet. Do you have a roommate or roommates? See if they will chip in to purchase something together (Obviously it would have to be something that both of you could use like a mini-fridge or a table etc.).
