Fourth of July is just around the corner. The fireworks, cookouts, beach trips galore!! A holiday means doing something fun, which in turn means some extra expenses. However, the point is to have fun and not accumulate too much debt in the process. Follow our credit counseling tips.
Budget-Friendly Fourth of July Tips
The Beach or the Park
Beaches and parks are a popular hangout during the Fourth of July. However, even parking costs can add up and impact your credit card debt. Scout for a friend in the neighborhood that you could park your car and walk into the park. In return for free parking, offer a small gift! Sometimes it is harder or impossible to avoid the parking fee. Try and make up for it by bringing your own food and drinks. Resist the urge to eat out from the fancy restaurant or make a million trips to the concession stand. Doesn’t a picnic sound great?
The Cookout
Cookouts are a popular way to celebrate Fourth of July. If you are hosting, it is a great idea to make it a pot-luck! You can stick with the basics such as burgers, hotdogs, salad, soda, beer, inexpensive wine, etc. Just think of some other cookout staples and make the request for what others should bring. You know you have a friend who makes amazing potato salad, right? That’s their job. And your buddy from high school who makes his own wine? Hit him up.
Keeping the Kids Busy
Kids need to be entertained or they’re going to wreak havoc on the holiday. One idea is to give the kids a few disposable cameras to share. They can be in charge of photography for the day. If you are having a staycation this holiday, bring out the pool or even a hose! Water play will keep the kids entertained and busy for hours.
Have fun and be safe this holiday weekend. Be cautious about what you spend to keep in your goals in line for debt management.
