With the Oscars just days away, it’s easy to get swept up in the glitz and glamour of Hollywood. While most celebrities have millions of dollars and get huge paychecks for each movie, they had to start from the bottom and work very hard to get to where they are. Not every celebrity was born with wealth and riches – many of your favorite actors and actresses had not-so-glamorous or odd jobs just to pay the bills. Interesting credit counseling fact, right? Find out what some renowned celebrities did before they were big, ranging from the fast food sector to even mortuary services.
Fast Food Industry
Amy Adams – The adorable singer and actress worked as a hostess at Hooters, albeit only for three weeks.
Rachel McAdams – The Queen of the Plastics served up fries and burgers at McDonald’s, as did Oscar nominee and infamous Oscar host James Franco.
Jennifer Hudson – The American Idol finalist and Oscar winner didn’t exactly wear the crown while working at Burger King, as did Queen Latifah.
Brad Pitt – The multiple Oscar nominee had to cover his beautiful face with a chicken costume when he worked for El Pollo Loco.
Julia Roberts – The Oscar winner must’ve had muscles of steel scooping ice cream at Baskin Robbins – another notable Baskin Robbins former employee is our President, Barack Obama.
Madonna – The Material Girl knew that America runs on Dunkin, working at Dunkin’ Donuts when she first moved to New York City. Our debt counselors certainly appreciate how important coffee is!
Retail Jobs
Amy Adams – Never afraid to earn her keep doing whatever she needed to do, Adams also worked as a greeter at the Gap. Surprisingly, another Gap alumnus is one of the biggest egos in the biz, Kanye West. We’d love to see what he was like slinging jeans.
Carrie Underwood – Now one of the most successful artists of current times, the American Idol winner once worked as a cashier in a gas station.
Johnny Depp – This might be the most boring job on the list – the heartthrob and Oscar nominee worked as a ballpoint pen salesman.
Weird, But Someone’s Gotta Do It
Rod Stewart – Before he took over the radio waves and became one of the biggest musical artists of all time, Rod Stewart earned his keep by digging graves.
Whoopi Goldberg – The Academy Award winner got up close and personal with the dead before she communicated with them in Ghost – she worked as a mortuary beautician.
Hugh Jackman – The multitalented singer, dancer, and actor worked as a clown for children’s birthday parties to pay for his training.
Jon Hamm – Before his big break on Mad Men, Hamm worked in the adult film industry… as a set dresser.
