Tuesday Tip: Save Money and the Environment – Carry a Reusable Bottle

According to Statistic Brain, the average American uses 167 disposable bottles of water every year. At an average cost of $1.45 per bottle, that’s $242.15 per year. The total amount that Americans spend on bottled water averages $11.8 billion per year. That’s a lot of money wasted, and a lot of plastic going to the dump. Our credit counseling advice is to save money anywhere you can. How can we minimize this expense and do something good for the environment? Reusable bottles, my friend.

Our debt counselors recommend saving money with a reusable water bottle.

Our debt counselors recommend saving money with a reusable water bottle.

For the cost of one plastic bottle of water ($1.45 average), you could fill that same reusable bottle with tap water for 10 years. Now, it’s not recommended that you reuse those plastic bottles for health reasons, but there is a solution. Reusable bottles have become more and more popular over the last several years. From fitness enthusiasts and outdoorsmen to environmentalists and frugalistas, everyone can find a reason to use them. For the one-time cost of the bottle (ranging from $5.00 to $20.00), you can refill it at any faucet or fountain and never have to purchase a plastic bottle – which helps your budget!

Save money and the environment by using a reusable bottle whenever you can. You can keep one in your car, or carry one in your purse or backpack.

If you’re struggling to pay off debt, ACCC can help. Schedule a free credit counseling session with us today.
