The age of technology has taken us so far from where we’ve come. New gadgets are coming out so quickly nowadays it’s hard to keep up. Even the way we purchase goods, complete household projects and consume information has completely adapted. Getting rid of credit card debt can be difficult when everywhere you turn you’re being persuaded to buy the next big thing you’re convinced that you need. But are there certain items from long ago that still work great, and you think, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it?
For Throw Back Thursday, here are some old school items that still function properly, saving money by not having to buy something new to replace it.
Sewing Machine
Were you lucky enough to have a crafty DIY family? Having and knowing how to use a sewing machine can save hundreds on alterations. That money can go towards your debt management efforts instead. Between hemming the length of pants to dress alterations, a machine that was purchased in the early 90’s still holds its own for being very valuable.
Boombox
Remember those massive stereos with a CD player and dual tape deck? They’re much louder than any expensive blue tooth portable speaker and those DD batteries will last you an entire weekend instead of a 4 hour stint at the beach. If you buy one of those tape deck adapters you can even hook up your iPod or plug it into your phone for close to the same sound quality.
Handkerchief
Not just for Dads! The average household spends up to $40/year, possibly even more on facial tissues. Carrying one around is not only eco friendly, but they’re more comfortable and natural to use on your face, causing less irritation.
Are there any items from back in the day that still work great for you? By utilizing fully functioning or otherwise outdated gadgets, you’ll get through debt management faster and save money from buying items you don’t necessarily need.
