Make Quick Cash by Selling Your Stuff

During the summer, there are more events to attend than ever before. From buying the right outfit for a wedding to giving recent graduates a gift, these expenses can quickly leave you in a financial bind. Avoid getting into credit card debt over your social life by raising quick cash! Here are some ideas for selling your stuff so you can have some extra money in the bank.

Getting quick cash can help you avoid debt.

Getting quick cash can help you avoid debt.

Make Quick Cash by Selling Your Stuff

  • Clothes: If you have good quality clothing that you haven’t worn in years, it may be time to clean out your closet. Sell your clothes to consignment stores, retailers that will pay you cash on the spot, or hold a yard sale. Designer clothing, accessories, shoes, and handbags can be worth a pretty penny. You can even resell your wardrobe on online shopping apps, such as Depop.
  • Cars: You’d be surprised at how many people would rather get a secondhand car than a new car. Used cars cost far less than a new car. In fact, as soon as a new car drives off the dealership’s lot, the car’s value drops an estimated 20%. A used car will also have lower monthly insurance payments. If someone is looking to buy a car on a budget, it’s in their best interest to buy a secondhand one. Place an ad online with vital information, including asking price, mileage, the condition of the vehicle, etc. That way, the potential buyer can know how much car they can afford.
  • Books: Books, and especially textbooks, can sell anywhere from a couple dollars to a few hundreds of dollars. Look for first edition books, as well as books with niche topics or an author/topic with a cult following. Use Amazon to list your books or sell them at a used bookstore.
  • Furniture: Craigslist is the best way to sell off furniture. However, it’s not the only way. Other alternatives include online apps such as Letgo, as well as the Facebook marketplace. You can also try consignment or antique stores. You can reach a new audience by placing an ad via your local newspaper, and if your price point isn’t too high, you can place your ad for free.

Selling your stuff doesn’t have to be hard! With a little bit of research, you can find out exactly what is selling and where. And, there are so many possibilities to sell the stuff you don’t need anymore, from cell phones to musical instruments. Take a look around your home and see what you can make for a profit! The money can also go towards paying off debt.

If you’re struggling with debt, ACCC can help. Schedule a free credit counseling session with us today.
