Our debt counselors know this – when people hear the word “budget,” they automatically freak out. How can you have fun while you’re watching your money? The truth is that you can still do fun activities, even on the cheap. It just takes some imagination and resourcefulness!
Budget-Friendly Activities
Take a Walk to the Park
Taking a walk to the park is not only a free activity, but a great way to get some exercise! And if you have kids, they can play with other children, participate in sports, and swing on the swing-sets! Enjoy time with your family and a scenic view.
Arrange a Movie Night
Instead of spending upwards of $10 on a movie ticket at theaters, it may be better to invite a few friends over your house and use a streaming service like Netflix to watch a movie. Use an HDMI cable to connect your computer or tablet to the TV. Make some popcorn and get drinks ready!
Attend a Potluck
Prepare a homemade dish and bring it to a potluck. Examples of dishes include lasagna, fried chicken, or shrimp gumbo. Everyone will bring some type of budget-friendly food to be shared, so you’ll save money on lunch or dinner and fill your belly!
Go to a Museum
If you enjoy art, you should look for listings on when museums have free entry. This is a great way to check out art while staying on budget. Certain museums will allow free admission on specific days and hours of the week. Some museums are always free.
Enjoy the Outdoors
Swim at the beach, hike at a nearby trail, walk near a pond, or visit a farm. Enjoying Mother Nature won’t cost you a dime!
Go to a Flea Market
Even though your local flea market involves looking at lots of jewelry and homemade goods, it doesn’t mean you have to engage in retail therapy! Maybe you can just have a snack and drink from one of the local food trucks and walk around.
Volunteer
Is there a cause close to your heart that you’ve always wanted to help out with but never had the time for? Finally make time for it in your schedule. Not only will this be a free activity, but you will feel better about yourself by enriching other peoples’ lives!
There you have it! These are just a few fun activities you can participate in without breaking the bank. There are so many summer budgeting hacks you can do this season. You just need to get creative!
